Houses on the Gulf coast

Beaumont, Port Arthur, Nederland and the towns around them — where the comfort complaint is almost always moisture wearing a temperature costume.

What people ring about

The calls we take

  • 01It is not coolingCapacitor, contactor, a tripped safety, a coil that needs cleaning, or a float switch doing exactly what it was fitted for.
  • 02It is cool but clammyRun time. The gauge explains it better than a paragraph can, and the fix is often airflow rather than equipment.
  • 03Water where it should not beBlocked condensate, an unprimed trap, a secondary pan doing the primary's job. Here this is the most common cause of ceiling damage.
  • 04It is twenty years oldWe tell you what it has left and what to budget, in writing, rather than quoting a replacement on the first visit.
Humidity

What we will and will not claim about damp air

We will tell you what a system is doing to the moisture in your air, because that is measurable: run time, coil temperature, airflow and where the condensate goes. Getting those right is most of what makes a Gulf coast house comfortable.

We will not tell you what damp air does to your health, what is growing in your walls, or that a product we fit will fix either. Those are questions for people qualified to answer them, and anybody in our trade who answers them confidently is selling something.

Safety

Two calls that go elsewhere first

  • A carbon monoxide alarm soundingEverybody out of the house, then call 911 or the gas utility from outside. Not us first, and do not go back in to open windows.
  • A smell of gasThe same. Leave the appliance alone, get out, ring from outside.

Once it has been made safe we will come and find out what caused it. Everything else goes in the diary.

Duct work crossing a humid attic, insulation intact, work light low
Ducts

A leaking duct in a humid attic pulls damp air into the house

Supply leaks lose cold air you paid for. Return leaks are worse: they pull hot, wet attic air straight into the system, and the coil then spends its capacity drying out the attic instead of the house.

It is measurable, it is fixable, and it is almost always cheaper than the larger system somebody else quoted. We measure airflow before and after so the work has a number attached.
